Due to the first cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Oregon and the outbreak in Washington State, here’s some basic information, resources, and reassurance.
First, any patient who does not feel well enough to come in for their visit is encouraged to stay home and rest. Dr. Krisko’s typical late cancellation fee will be waived in these instances until further notice. Please do call to inform her that you will not be able to make it to your scheduled appointment as soon as you are able or you will be assessed a missed appointment fee as per Dr. Krisko’s policy. For patients who still want or need to be seen, please call ahead if you are experiencing symptoms of a cold or flu such as a fever, cough or shortness of breath so Dr. Krisko can help you decide how to appropriately manage your condition.
The best form of prevention for acute illnesses is still good lifestyle habits, so continue to make healthy diet, exercise and hydration choices for yourself and your family. And, manage your stress as well as maximizing the quality of your sleep. Also, the best advice we can give regarding lowering your risk of transmission is to do the following…
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Cover your coughs or sneezes with a tissue which should then be thrown in the trash immediately.
- Avoid touching your face, eyes or mouth with your hands as much as possible.
- Get fresh air, but avoid enclosed spaces with large groups of people
- Be wary of close proximity or prolonged exposure to others who are coughing, sneezing or wiping their noses or eyes.
- Clean & disinfect frequently touched items, objects, and surfaces.
Symptoms of the coronavirus are typical cold and flu symptoms, fatigue, fever, cough, trouble breathing, and possibly nausea and diarrhea. People may develop symptoms 2-14 days after contracting the virus and will be most contagious when symptoms are the most severe, but transmission can occur outside of this window. Dr. Krisko has some more specific advice regarding a short list of supplements that may help support your immune system and prevent the virus from taking hold. If you want to speak with her about whether these supplements may be a good choice for you or if you have any other questions or concerns about the potential risks coronavirus may pose to you specifically, please call (503-274-9360) or schedule an appointment online (kriskonaturopathic.com) to discuss these topics in more detail.
