One of the most common symptoms encountered, headaches can range from mild to severe. The most common form is a tension headache, which results from muscular tension in the head and neck and feels like a pressing or tightening sensation on both sides of the head.
Tension headache does not generally have other symptoms, while migraine and cluster headache are generally accompanied by other symptoms including sensory changes, nausea and lengthy duration. Only your doctor can diagnose which type of headache you have.
There are many different types of headaches, and each type has unique characteristics. In order to treat someone with chronic headaches, we must diagnose the type of headache properly and then identify probable causes underlying the issue.
We will be with you every step of the way through this process, which may include lab work, diagnostic imaging, food diary, or other procedures. It may be that your headaches are linked to nervous system or hormonal issues, musculo-skeletal problems, or detoxification pathways that are not functioning properly.
In addition to customized naturopathic care including dietary and remedies prescribed specifically for you, we offer acupuncture and craniosacral therapy, both of which have been successful for pain relief in patients with chronic headaches.
Over time, patients find that they have less frequent and severe headaches and that they have the tools they need to stop a headache at the beginning stages, before it becomes a full-blown event.
